The Khamtrul Lineage
The Fourth Gyalwang Drukpa, Kunkhyen Pema Karpo, was one of the most celebrated masters in the sixteenth century. One of his most accomplished disciples, Lhatsewa Ngawang Zangpo (the
First Yongdzin Rinpoche), had numerous disciples.
Among whom nine attained the level of realization where there is no distinction between meditation and no meditation (Gom-Med), a skillful integration of meditation into mundane life. The three supreme among these nine realized disciples were Khampa
Kunga Tenphel (The First Khamtrul Rinpoche, 1569- 1627), Taktsang Repa Ngawang Gyatso (The First Taktsang Rinpoche) who became the royal preceptor of Ladakh, and Konchok Gyalpo (the
First Dorzong Rinpoche).
